Well here goes... my first blog ever!
And what a topic to begin with! Some may think I'm crazy, others brave. There have definitely been mixed reactions to my latest proposed holiday destination... Iceland.
Planning this trip has indeed inspired the start of my blogging journey, but my belief that travelling with young children need not be the fuss and hassle that many, especially new, parents believe it to be, has made me want to share the stories and adventures of our little adventure baby with you all.
So where do I begin?
The land of fire and ice has certainly been on my hit list for some time with its gorgeous landscapes, rich cultural history blending into mythology and the chance of visiting some of the most amazing geological sites on earth.
But how on earth do you go about preparing for an artic adventure with an 18 month old toddler in tow? Surely geology, viking history and hiking is not going to entertain a extremely determined and independent toddler? From very early on we came to realise that Orla was at her best and happiest when outdoors, in the fresh air, getting covered in muck. So you could argue that a predominately outdoorsy holiday would seem logical. I really don't think Iceland has ever seemed like a logical idea! Who wants to go to a remote country on the fringe of the artic circle, where the weather can change in a finger snap and volcanic activity brings the worlds aviation industry to a standstill? Surely you would need your head checking to even consider taking a toddler somewhere so remote and extreme. Cue our next big adventure!
So how exactly have I gone about organising this once in a life time trip? Watch this space for my thoughts on planning our adventure to the artic circle ... with an 18 month old.
